Miami Children's Chorus

The mission of the Miami Children's Chorus is to provide a music education/performance program for children ages 8-16 in Miami-Dade County. The MCC seeks to continuously enhance the cultural life of South Florida by providing choristers and audiences with a positive and valuable musical resource.

Beginning Chorus- composed of children in their beginning stages of vocal development. Choristers can spend up to two years in this choir. Here they will be immediately engaged in singing experiences through imitation. The repertoire will include rounds and canons, folk songs, chorales, and patriotic songs. Their training will include developing vocal skills, musicianship and sight singing skills.

Intermediate Chorus- choristers continue their musical development by experiencing more challenging repertoire. The repertoire includes the core literature as well as compositions in two-parts, three-parts, accompanied, and unaccompanied. Intermediate choristers must
demonstrate a practicing knowledge of singing posture, effective breathing for singing, and
principles of diction.

Advanced Chorus - composed of children who demonstrate a high level of musicianship and performance standard. The repertoire includes core literature as well as contemporary
compositions, works for chorus and orchestra (and other instrumental groupings), opera, and
music requiring extended vocal techniques. Advanced chorus members must be able to retain
complex melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic material.
Full Chorus - The Full Chorus will be composed of all members of the Intermediate Chorus and the Advanced Chorus. This chorus will not meet at a time different from regularly scheduled rehearsals unless deemed necessary by the Music Director.
