Camp Live Oak

Camp Live Oak is open from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. weekdays during its Summer, Winter and Spring Camps.

Ages 5 to 13

Before and After Camp care is available for parents who need a longer camp day. Please contact the Camp Director with your needs and include this information on the Registration Form when you enroll your child for this
additional camp feature. A car pool list is maintained to assist parents with transportation.

Camp Live Oak operates a ten week summer program which includes time blocks of:

a four week session (optional Photo Safari)
a second four week session (Optional Sleep-over)
a one week Ocean Quest Camp
a one week Adventure Camp
An additional fee is charged for Optional Programs.

Camp's first session begins in June as school ends and runs through the week school begins in August. Children are in age-appropriate groupings.

During the second four week session, Camp Live Oak holds a Starlight Sleep-over (in air-conditioned cabins), featuring a sing-along around a roaring campfire, followed by after dinner games and stories, and highlighted by the exciting "bat-and-nocturnal animals" walk.

Photo Safari is presented once each session. This special program runs for 1 hour each day during the third week of each regular camp session. Campers will log a total of 5 hours of nature photography learning skills, composition, lighting, and background. This program is recommended for children ages 8 and above.

Toward the middle of August and following the second four week session arrives the dynamically different one week session entitled, Ocean Quest, for kindergartners through eight graders in which we study reefs, shorelines, sea life including sea turtles, flowers and grasses of the sea, sand and tides through on-site observation, experiments, and laboratory work. Included for campers in grades 3 and above is a trip to Biscayne National Park. Campers in grade 2 and under visit the Miami Seaquarium for a day of ocean adventure learning.

An Ideal Counselor to Camper Ratio
An ideal counselor to camper ratio (based on standards as determined by the American Camping Association) affords our campers a pleasurable and safe summer. With certified teachers, counselors, scientists, state guides, ecologists and water safety instructors, children are guided through Florida's natural habitats, assuring positive learning experiences.

Snorkeling, canoeing, story-telling, non-competitive sports and games (establishing a sense of fair play and collaboration), hiking, shelling, baiting, fishing, photographic documentation of scientific observations and identification of plants, animals and insects are but a few of the activities which take place. We sing, we dance, we play!

Learning about how our land takes care of us ultimately leads to how we take care of our land, its plants, its animals and its human beings. Every concept we expect children to learn and do is intensified by a myriad of learning extensions. Learning is fun because it is exploratory, and each year the program grows and changes.

Programs at both locations are very similar. Activities are diversified to stimulate young campers. Activities at both camps are planned for outdoors, with grounded and covered pavilions with awnings available for certain activities that are always in store if the weather should waver!

Campers experience first-hand the abundant life within the mangrove areas and enjoy experiences in archaeology, safari adventures, oceanography, music, drama, and other arts. Since the camps are two distinct habitats, the exploration of ecosystems varies. Be a yeoperson or bowperson, archery is a high flying sport at both camps, along with the etiquette and graciousness of croquet!

Again, activities at Oleta River and Birch State Parks are so similar as to nearly be the same, yet it is the ecosystems which are different and thus require some different learning episodes. Staff encourage, explore and plan for these differences and similarities.

Pricing

Summer Camp Session: There are two 4-week summer camp sessions. Each session costs $860.00 ($215.00 per week). Campers are encouraged to sign up for the full 4-week session to obtain the best price and experience. Many of our campers attend all summer! You may split the session by attending any combination of four weeks throughout sessions I and II. Weekly sessions are also available for a price of $250.00 per week. If you sign up for at least three weeks, the weekly rate is $225.00.

After session II, there are two 1-week programs: Ocean Quest and Adventure Camp. Ocean Quest costs $250.00 for grades K - 2 and $275.00 for grades 3 and up. Adventure Camp costs $250.00 for all ages. These two programs are separate and may not used in the split-session plan.

Many of our foreign visitors ask to add a week before Ocean Quest and Adventure Camp. Each additional week costs $250.00 if not attending the full 4-week session.
