Level III Neonatal Intensive care Unit (NICU)
The 63-bed NICU at the Chris Evert Childrens Hospital is one of the largest and most sophisticated in the nation. As a Level III unit, the NICU is able to support the tiniest and sickest of babies.
Ronald McDonald Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
Staffed by a team of highly trained nurses and pediatric specialists, the 12-bed Ronald McDonald PICU at the Chris Evert Childrens Hospital is one of the largest childrens care centers in the nation. Directed around the clock by pediatric intensivists, the PICU is able to treat life-threatening illnesses and injuries. Critically ill children are transferred to the Chris Evert Childrens Hospital to receive the highest level of pediatric intensive care in South Florida.
Pediatric Unit
The 50-bed Pediatric Unit at the Chris Evert Childrens Hospital is dedicated to the comfort and care of our youngest patients and provides support for their families.
Child Life Program
Utilizing therapeutic play and patient education, the Child Life Program helps to reduce the stress and anxiety children and their family may experience during hospitalization. A child life specialist and team of volunteers organize play sessions and bring toys and games to those children who are unable to leave their rooms. Frequent visits to the unit by celebrities, clowns, magicians and pet therapists bring a smile to our youngest patients faces.
Chris Evert Children's School
The CECH School is offered to chronically ill children so they are not left behind in school. A certified Broward County school teacher is on staff in our Pediatric Unit.
Pediatric Emergency Department
The Chris Evert Childrens Hospital has a separate eight-room pediatric emergency department just for children. Specially trained pediatric emergency physicians, nurses and respiratory therapists are available around the clock to treat infants, children and teens in a comforting environment designed just for them.
Pediatric Level 1 Trauma Center
One of only three verified Level I Trauma Centers in South Florida.
Chris Evert Eye Screening Program
Babies visiting our neonatal intensive care center are screened by a board-certified pediatric ophthalmologist during their stay. Our goal is early detection of eye problems to increase the potential for early correction and decrease rapid loss of vision.
Infant Hearing Screening
All babies born at Chris Evert Childrens Hospital/Chris Evert Womens Center are screened for hearing impairment. Special sensors are placed on the back of the babys neck to measure brainwave response to sound stimulation and to identify hearing problems during the first days of life. Those with hearing impairment are referred to support programs that can help maximize the infants hearing so development is not adversely affected.
Pediatric specialty areas include: cardiology, otolaryngology, pathology, pediatric surgery, pulmonology, radiology, critical care medicine, emergency medicine, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hematology-oncology, infectious disease, neonatal-perinatal medicine and nephrology.
Pediatric Sickle Cell Day Hospital
The Pediatric Sickle Cell Day Hospital at Chris Evert Childrens Hospital focuses on providing pain management of acute and chronic pain without resorting to emergency room care.At the Day Hospital, treatment begins quickly by staff familiar with your care. An evaluation is done which includes an examination by a physician trained in sickle cell disease. The therapy includes intravenous hydration and the latest in pain therapy.
Pediatric Sedation
Recently open, the newly renovated, expanded and only pediatric sedation unit in Broward County. The unit is designed with a child-friendly atmosphere, minimizing patient fears and anxiety. Chris Evert Chidrens Hospital has dedicated a unique team in pediatric sedation that specializes in the safest techniques meeting the individual needs of each child. The newly renovated sedation unit encompasses sophisticated imaging techniques to visualize and assess tissue. This new method allows physicians to determine the best course of action or treatment for their patient with minimal discomfort.
Care services include: child life program, home health care, hospice, medical transport, rehabilitation, school-based health care program, trauma services and urgent care services.
Our community outreach programs include: bicycle safety, parenting classes, poison prevention, pool safety, public insurance enrollment programs, shaken baby syndrome prevention, tobacco prevention, child abuse prevention, child safety seat information, family resource center, gun safety, health/safety fairs, literacy programs and nutrition education.
