Education and Community Outreach
The PlayGround Theatre provides audiences of all ages, especially underserved youth, the opportunity to experience the highest quality live theatre. Since young people from low-income neighborhoods cannot afford the cost of live theatre, The PlayGround Theatre reaches and engages these underserved citizens by providing special school performances as well as complimentary tickets for weekend performances. By presenting productions from around the globe, The PlayGround Theatre builds on the strengths and assets of the multicultural communities in South Florida and everywhere it presents.
In addition to the performances themselves, The PlayGround Theatre provides study guides to maximize the theatre experience with background information and suggested activities. Whenever possible, PlayGround artistic directors, cast members and crew meet with audience members to discuss the production.
Many of the children and young adults that The PlayGround Theatre reaches come from neighborhoods where violence, unemployment, and a lack of education are common, and the luxury of attending live theatre beyond their reach. However, the cultural arts are a powerful weapon against adversity, opening doors for both children and adults.
Art, particularly theatre, opens minds to great ideas and hope for the future through its live stimulation and narrative. The PlayGround Theatres thought-provoking and entertaining productions prompt audiences to expand their imagination while opening their eyes to different worlds, cultures, ideas, and views. Through The PlayGround Theatres education and community outreach program, creativity and imaginations are developed as underserved individuals are given access to the valuable medium of theatre.
