Camp

During the summer, the BF Basketball Academy runs a weekday, full-day basketball camp for boys and girls ages 7-18. The camp is run in one-week sessions where campers are divided into small homerooms with 2 coaches per homeroom.

The day begins with drills and moves into scrimmages, games and more. Like the Academy, the summer camp teaches fundamentals of the game, including dribbling, shooting and passing. Sportsmanship and good attitudes are a key component of the program.

Campers need to keep their eyes and ears open for special guest speakers who occasionally drop by throughout the week. Past speakers include Tim Hardaway, Olympic Gold medalist, Debbie Ferguson, and NFL Stars Dan Marino and Bernie Kosar. A few lucky kids even got to play against Tim Hardaway!

Each week ends with Championship Fridays, a day spent in individual and team competition culminating in an all-camp awards ceremony celebrating the most improved player and best sportsmanship among others.

Each session costs $200 per session. Drop-off is at 9:00 am and pick-up is at 4:00 pm. Homeroom coaches sign each and every child out daily, so please be sure to check in with your childs coach.

Summer camp will be held at Coral Gables Senior High School & Ferguson High School.  To register for Summer Camp, download the application and mail completed forms to:

Coaches

Benny Fragela: (Director) Benny graduated from Jamestown College where he played both shooting guard and point guard under Coach Brad Huse, now at University of Montana. During his tenure at Jamestown, Coach Fragela was a DAC-10 All-Conference nominee 2002 through 2004 and broke college records for most three-pointers in both a game and season. He was invited to play for the USA 22-under National Basketball Team in Australia, winning the gold medal.

As a coach, Benny has extensive experience establishing the best camps and clinics for young players. His clinics provide an opportunity to learn basketball skills, in addition to life skills. He educates players on how to focus, how to succeed in the classroom, how to be well-rounded person, and how to get the most out of your potential.

Matt Tchir: (Director) With more than 18 years of basketball camp and clinic experience, Matt brings both basketball expertise and a leadership compass to the program. As a Division 1 NCAA Basketball player for FIU, Matt was selected by his coaches and peers as Team Captain for two years running. As a college athlete, Matt is ranked 5th in 3 point FG in single season in FIU history and is ranked 10th in 3 point FG in career in FIU history.

He is also author of the book, Matt Tchirs Ball Handling Magic. Matt is an expert at motivating children and coaches, as well as a model for sportsmanship and a good attitude. In his words, he has a desire to help players develop character in life skills through the sport such as self confidence, teamwork, respect, perseverance through adversity and great sportsmanship.

Huey Futch: (Director) Huey played basketball under Coach John Chaney at Temple University. In 1993, he was named Dade County's player of the year, Mr. Florida Basketball and a McDonalds All American. His basketball career at Temple included three visits to NCAA tournaments.

Huey is a popular figure at the BF Academy because of his tremendous rapport with the children and his basketball prowess. He is an enthusiastic coach who is always looking to improve his students games.
