Our kids program is unique in comparison to other programs for children. The main difference, our program teaches your child to defend themselves. By simply enrolling your child in a martial arts program does not mean that your child will be able to defend themselves. Most kids martial arts programs are sport oriented and there main focus is winning medals and trophies. None of that will help your child in an attempted abduction. Due to the Nintendo generation, an increase in violence against children, and physical education programs being cut or optional, obesity in children has sky rocketed.
Todays children because of an almost forced confinement dont get enough exercise. The kids program mixes self-defense techniques with conditioning and skill oriented games aimed at improving your childs coordination, motor skills, agility, flexibility, and personal safety.
Enrolling your kids in our self defense program is simple. Just call and make an appointment so you can visit the school and meet the instructor. Next your child can participate in a free introductory class. If your child likes our program then you can enroll him/her. We offer a simple hassle free fee structure which eliminates the need for lengthy contacts.
Our self defense class is for those individuals who want to learn effective self defense but are not interested in learning a traditional martial. Class begins with students going through a stretching routine to loosen up the body and prepare for class. Next, the instructor will demonstrate a particular self defense technique and then you will practice it with a partner. Like in the Aikido class, you will change partners frequently during class. Students learn to effectively learn how to defend themselves against the most common street attacks. There is no particular uniform worn in the self defense class, students wear comfortable and loose fitting workout pants or shorts and a class t-shirt.
Aikido
This dynamic and cardio intensive class will teach you effective self defense through the use of timing, movement, and balance taking. Class begins with a quick stretching routine to loosen up the body and prepare you for class. Next youll progress to the basic movements of Aikido foot work, and finally youll work on rolling and tumbling skills. Once the warm-up is completed, the instructor will guide you through a series of self defense techniques. Aikido is always practiced with a partner and you will frequently change partners during the class. This way, youll learn to apply Aikido technique to training partners of all shapes and sizes. Aikido is practiced in a white judo uniform.
Yoga
Yoga is for everyone no matter what your fitness level. It is non-competitive, personal and enjoyable activity that can produce truly amazing results. It will help improve your physical health, tone your muscles and internal organs, relieve tension and stress, and strengthen your bones. Whether you are new to yoga or already practicing, the benefits of yoga are many. The following are brief descriptions of the yoga classes we offer at Tenshin Dojo.
ADULT YOGA:
Gentle yoga postures, breathing techniques and mindfulness meditation designed to promote stress relief and relaxation. Modifications to postures are given so that each student may adjust poses to their individual need.
PRENATAL YOGA:
Through the use of various yoga postures, breathing and relaxation techniques, future moms will discover ways of coping with issues specific to pregnancy, such as: strengthening pelvic floor muscles, alleviating sciatica, lower back pain and nausea. Prenatal yoga helps expectant moms honor and better understand the amazing changes taking place in their bodies and their baby. No prior yoga experience is necessary. Please check with your physician and/or midwife before registering for class.
POSTNATAL WITH BABY YOGA:
Class will consist of various postures that will help mom regain muscle tone, abdominal strength and flexibility, as well as reduce stress and deepen relaxation. Whenever possible, babies are included in the postures and are also given gentle baby massage. Baby should be at least six weeks old before mom practices yoga.
