Charles Day

Expert Personal Trainer. Philosophy on Dry land training for swimmers. The training should include various training methods:Technical, Tactical, Psychology, Speed, Endurance and Flexibility. The most significant goal of dryland training is to guard against the damage done by the sport. Sustaining a shoulder injury (impact and chronic).
There are two keys to control/prevent injury:
Flexibility- return length and lower tone of connective tissue
Strength- stabilize joints and reduce tissue/nerve impingement and joint wear sustained, and do very little if any running due to the impact to the lower extremities. As the athlete advances in age and experience, the amount of general training decreases from a dominant content to a lesser content, and is replaced by specialized training. Periodization should be designed throughout the year.
Flexibility: Stretch all connective tissue
Beginner- static
Intermediate- PNF/partner
Advanced-dynamic

Strength: Beginner- bodyweight (pull ups, dips)
Intermediate- limited external load (thera bands)
Advanced- unlimited external load (strength training)

Speed: Beginner-flat land training
Intermediate- hills/stairs
Advanced- water specific

Endurance: Beginner- steady state, including low vertical impact activities
Intermediate- extend to include interval, can increase vertical impact
Advanced- Introduce vertical gravity activities
Certifications: USA Weightlifting Club Coach, American Fitness & Aerobics Certification
Experience: Acute rehabilitation, post rehab specializing in shoulder, knee, hip and back injuries. 7 years experience in personal training and sport specific training with youth, high school, college and pro athletes. Participated and knowledge of training in various sports, martial arts, former Ohio State University football and current NFL free agent.
